Valley Health Services maintains an annual Development Fund Drive to benefit the programs offered at the facility including cardiac rehabilitation and palliative care. As an affiliate of the Bassett Healthcare Network, VHS is fortunate to have the assistance of the Bassett fundraising group, the Friends of Bassett.  Their services are provided free-of-charge to all Bassett affiliates.  This allows for simplified bookkeeping, audit responsibilities and reduced administrative expenses and fees across the Bassett system. Please know that when you make a contribution to Valley Health Services, 100 percent of your gift is received by VHS.  There are no processing fees charged to us and no percentage is kept by the Friends of Bassett.

Through the Friends of Basset, an annual appeal letter soliciting donations is sent in the spring of each year.  Valley Health Services also sponsors several fund-raising events throughout the year to benefit the Development Fund Drive.

The first and largest of these fundraisers is The Magic of Herkimer.  This event is held the first Sunday in June and features the hors d'oeuvres of many local restaurants, wine, ale and other beverages complemented by local musical talent.

Another annual favorite fund-raiser is the Brooks' Chicken and Rib barbecue held each summer.  Employees, residents and their family members as well as local and area residents enjoy mouth-watering chicken and rib dinners while helping to raise funds for VHS.

The VHS annual Rehab-A-Room Raffle features a prize package valued at $2,000 and offers participants a chance to Rehab-A-Room of their choice in their own home. Tickets are one (1) for $5 or three (3) for $10 and this year’s drawing was be held on June 6th at the Magic of Herkimer.  Our next annual raffle will begin in the spring of 2012.

Memorial Garden – The summer of 2008 saw many changes in the area adjacent to the gazebo on the south side of the facility. Through a generous lead donation from Enea Family Funeral Home, Inc., a circular paver-patio was laid. Another substantial donation provided a dove fountain as the centerpiece of the patio. An informational mailing to family members of past residents procured funds to purchase 3 stone benches, bricks to line the existing sidewalk and decorative landscaping. This on-going Memorial Garden fundraiser is available to anyone interested: Prices are as follows: Benches - $1,000 | Bushes - $200 | Bricks - $100

Throughout the year, Valley Health Services sponsors various other raffle opportunities as well as several in-house sales where a percentage of the profits are donated to the development efforts.

Employees are also encouraged to donate regularly to the Development Fund Drive through bi-weekly payroll deduction or a one-time annual gift.
